Botox (Neurotoxin)
Botox is a purified protein which relaxes muscle function. Botox binds to neurons to prevent neurotransmitters (Aceylcholine-causes muscles to contract) from releasing into the synaps (gap between nerve endings and muscle), in which signal to the nerve impulse to muscle is impeded. Botox enters the axon and binds to the synaptic visicle which leads to no action potential. Botox simply prevents the repetitive motions which lead to wrinkles. Botox has been used since the 1970s and has been approved for aesthetics for over 10 years. Botox is FDA approved for forehead lines, crow's feet, and glabellar lines. There are many off label uses for neurotoxin with advanced training providers, such as myself. Now there are more medication options such as Dysport, Xeomin, and Myobloc. Please inquire which is best for you.
